Digital Map

I was presented with the task of creating a digital map of where I am in relation to a Visitor, Resident, Professional, and Personal as it relates to digital resources I access. This is an interesting concept that I hadn't considered before. At first I thought this was my digital footprint. This could be considered a higher level blueprint for the vast range that our digital footprint expands to. Let's look more at the four components to make sense of this. Professional: As its name suggests, these resources would be those used for professional purposes. This may look different for everyone. For example, in my Digital Map below, I use Twitter strictly for connecting with other educators, sharing my blogs, posting my podcast (check out @JiffyPopPodcast), and as part of my PLN of teachers. I primarily use Google Drive components for professional use and not for personal use. On my map I've also included several educational apps that I use as a teacher. Personal: There are many self-management tools that I use to keep my focused. All are standard apps included on an iPhone. You'll see the email app, iMessage/text messages, Calendar, and iWatch. You'll notice that I included Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint under personal which is a difference from the Google Drive apps in my professional category. I tend to use Microsoft products personally, on my laptop, versus the Google Drive collaboration features for work that all departments use to share out documents. I also included Wix (where this blog post is being posted) as I utilize that for personal reasons, although there could be some overlap. The next two categories presented some interesting personal reflections for me: Visitor and Resident.

"Visitors and Residents is a simple way of describing the range of ways individuals can engage with the Web". (White, 2018)

Visitor: A visitor, as I understand it, is the technology that you use where you do not interact with others. Very simply put. So on my digital map, I have MakerBot app, clock, iWatch, and my Notes. I've also included my church management app for taking attendance Breeze, and the PS Mobile app that I use to print from my mobile devices. Resident: For Resident, just the opposite of Visitor, are the technology resources you employ were you do interact with others. For me, this would include Twitter, Wix TLCgo, Google Drive, and I even have my email and calendar app (which actually overlaps into multiple areas. Going back to my initial thoughts of this relating to a digital footprint. I can see how items falling in the resident area could lead me to have a hirer digital footprint. I I was looking to protect my personal information online, this digital map would assist with managing this. Now I pose a question to you. If you were to create a digital map, what would you include?
