How To Be Prepared For Class

By better preparing yourself for class, you will become more and more confident every time you enter the classroom. In time, you will feel excited about going to class, and your grades will drastically improve. Attitude is everything, so start today by changing your mindset about class. Here are six steps to help you prepare for class.

1. Read material before class. Having some exposure to the content will make it much easier to follow along with what the teacher says. When you read, make notes on what questions you have, and then make sure you get answers for those questions during class time, whether the teacher answers them in the lecture or whether you have to ask.

2. Review past material. Understanding what you did in previous classes will make it much easier to make connections to new material.

3. Make a list of questions that you may have from the previous day's activities or homework. Try to get all questions resolved before moving on.

4. Do your homework. At least try every problem and make notes when you don't understand something. Attempting the problems will show your teacher that you care and will help you formulate questions that can help you comprehend the material.

5. Stay organized. Punch holes in all of your papers and keep them in a binder. Resist the urge to shove them in a folder and "deal with them later." Find an organization pattern that works for you and stick to it.

6. Come to class prepared with the appropriate materials, such as your text, loose-leaf paper, and something to write with. When you get to class, get the necessary materials out before the teacher begins. You don't want to miss part of the class because you are busy looking around for a pencil.

Preparing for class in advance can help you better focus and help you learn more. It is a greater time investment up front, but it will save you time when preparing for an exam because you won't have to teach yourself the material all at once. It will also help you find an appreciation for class, and will help you better yourself through your education.
